Those who give lessons, what would you do in this situation ....? I just started to give lessons to some of my fellow residents barn. They are twin sisters aged 60 years. Greener than the grass.
They finally bought their own two horses and now we're mounting saddle etc. I feel pretty well informed about mounting after all I lived with my mule. I am helping them get the right edge. A bought a flextree circle Y from a local store saddle and it fits perfectly. The other has a spike-end QH pony-sized companies and almost appears to be a bugger to fit.
For now, she is riding on my mule wide saddle. Until we put in its place. So now it comes with a saddle and Tucker saddle local lady promised it would be appropriate. Well, it is pinching muscle in the shoulders and too rock to it in the back. So I told him.
Plus they bought a little slow because someone told them that the horse of their old 14 years old should be a hindrance when his jaw in a lifetime.
Will add details
Mulereiner, you are a saint to give these lessons ladies. But there is no reason for you to get stuck in a situation that already is not only frustrating, but could be potentially irritating and harmful to their horses.
It may sound harsh, but I have seen this type before. I suggest that you take a position now.
You can tell them, for example, give you lessons, but not do these extra things like the seat assembly and so on through a committee. They can either take your advice or leave you completely out of it.
Or, of course, you could say that you can not teach them all they want to ignore your advice. Suggest they try your way for a certain period of time (3 months, 6 months) and if it does not work, they can pick someone else opinion.
Regarding the bit goes, you can just say brightly, "It's wonderful! You all ready to go when you graduate from the jaws. In this way, it becomes something to work rather than to" the wrong choice ".
Of course, the right time for that limit may never come, but at least you can save the poor horse to go straight to a bit of a bridle bit yet. You can also show how the bits work in the mouth so they can understand how much more is a hindrance. I really learned a lot from time to time when my coach holds one bit position and shows me exactly how it works in my horse's mouth, so I can understand the action of the bit and see why it is more severe than the other. Beginners have no idea what the drill bit, or even if it is in the mouth, how does the leverage, etc.
Sure, they may think you are without heart and say if you put your foot down. But they will think anyway, if they continue to be conflicting advice from all sorts of people, and then later, you must have some sort of showdown. Or they'll blame when their horse is acting because of the bad bit and a saddle.
It's like working with the horses so they learn from you, they must accept you as a leader. Unless there is a compelling reason you need the money they pay, my view would be to do the most difficult and sooner rather than later.
You are Soing good thing I think. Now, say if they were around you and bumps that you were wrong saying that the only thing I would do is first tell them that they will continue with you outside your building and if they continue to launch on! Thats what my old master did when this girl came up and suddenly began to tell him what she did wrong! OOO did she get angry against her! Well good luck! I know I didn't help someone so hopfully all will answer this?.
