How would you unclog my bathtub drain (not a sexy issue, I know)? The tub is 50 years, with a piston tripwaste style - ie, you move the lever that is under the tap, and it plugs up the leak without your see the page.
When you unscrew the lid on this lever, the mechanism is supposed to come with tripwaste. The problem is that the thing is so old that the lever has corroded off, and the mechanism / piston are permanently clogged drain. The tub drains, but very slowly. I tried to pour boiling water, white vinegar, and Drano. Have tried to pull the tripwaste with pliers. Even tried to use a toilet plunger, which does help the flow of water slightly faster, but does not loosen the corrosion mechanism.
Plumbers say they would have to tear the wall for many $ $ $. Is not there another way?? Help!
Not many options here. The key is that you get the piston of the hose. You could try a long pair of pliers or a bent suspension for a small hook (about 1 / 2 "should do the trick). If you can not get it from the tub, you must either go under or the back. If the tub is on the first floor and you have a basement or crawlspace, you might be able to get from there. Otherwise, it is almost through the wall or ceiling below.
Good luck! Been there, done that.
I just use my plunger to get it.
Here's your answer

This is the third issue with the same answer
Try an accordion "piston type that blows air into the tube when you press it. They cost about $ 13. If this does not work in this case, you still sink, toilet, etc.
Remember to cover the overflow holes above the drain with a wet washcloth or something. In this way, air is directed in the direction of the shoe, and not just up and leave.
I would like on the site RSVReno suggested. I just unclogged my bathroom sink with it! YAAAAAY!
well lets see here:
What I would do is get out your hammer and chisel or small screwdriver and start hitting the outer edge of the part coroded. Use gentle taps lite does not break the pipe or chrome retainer around the drain.
If this does not break the losing-try some of filing. Let it set a while, then add a little more. You want to try and pour near the corroded not only discharge into the drain. Then get out the hammer and chisel and try again. (Before doing that for the second time to remove any file-in and near the leak, where eye protection.
If this work does not work, is flight acesa below? If you can get to work, you'll need to cut the pipe leading to the drain. After making the cut on the bottom of the pipe to someone sticking a screwdriver into the kind of drain side as much as possible and hold it while you try to turn down the pipe from the opposite clock needles and see if off. If you get the [PIP old e to replace a bathtub drain kit. You might not be able to join the first game and will go with drain plug rubber type of old-fashioned with a decorative chain attached. Other than the plumber is right, you will have to cut an access hole to get to everything ..
Also, you may want to look in the room beside the front of the tub and see if there is already an access hole to get to everything. Many times they do and you can also cut an access hole in this room rather than in the bathtub. So many times the access hole for the tanks are in a closet.
Good Luck. As always a project of plumbing numerous trips to the hardware store and lots of patience
