How do you wire up motorcycle heated grips? I bought heated grips off eBay (not Oxford). I had my bike on the Oxford last, but those on eBay were only a‚¬ 15 compared to about £ 50 for those of Oxford.
I looked at the instructions on how to install them, and they might as well be in Chinese for all the good they are. They have clearly been mistranslated, and did not make sense.
My bike is a 1999 Yamaha Fazer 600. I had a look at the fuse box under the seat, but am not sure of the log.
The establishment has a blue (negative) cable with an eyelet on it, and gray (positive) cable. It is obvious that I'm adapting to it will be on when the ignition is on.
Does anyone know how to adapt these cables to save my ususal £ 100 dealers at a price?
The son of indicators are easily accessible.
Attach the handle (+) to pass the thread of light - it is only when the power button is turned on (and stays on until the button is disabled).
The blue light is running.
Black is constant.
butin4 & JG gave good advice to install a switch.
Otherwise you'll have to unplug them when you want to disable.
Buy a simple switch from an electronics store (the one you can easily get on the bike).
Grip (+) wire to the switch.
The other terminal of the switch to the blue wire turn signal.
I had the same problem when I am a racer tom-tom.
I just connected to Battery + and - not ideal, but it was okay for the last 2 years.
But I have a switch between the two!
As above, get a switch from Halfords and just connect directly to the battery.
Use a light switch so you can easily see when they are on, and hopefully not forget to turn them off.
Using a switch instead of running off the ignition will extend their life as they will be on when needed - probably a good thing with the low prices.
to execute a relay adds some complexity to the install but it will handles better, hotter.
depends on what type they are, some are made to connect to the battery with auto off. ar is certain to connect to the battery and turn off DONT. In this case I piggy-back a thread of life wswitched from ignition to the heated grips.
100 pounds? .. Ill do it for £ 20 ... is a piece of cake ... connect to the blue / white on the page of your starter relay ,.... sorted
Some good answers so far, but if you're still you get from your local auto parts store and see if they have a suitable switch, handle bar or panel they also have water proof 'Boots 'to go on them, and if you do use panel mount, and you put the switch where you can reach it while riding the better, then direct wire to the battery. Passing through the bikes existing wiring can cause problems, since the current that heated grips would draw more than any particular machine wiring can safely carry.
If still in doubt ask around locally to see if you can find a biker friendly help. You belong to a bike club, club makers? If so ask away.
Bare in mind electric modern bicycles have a minimum wiring size for the sole purpose it serves.
