How do I know if an ancestor enrolled at Cambridge or Oxford in 1600? Contact two universities:

http://www.cam.ac.uk/cambuniv/uarchives. ...
Edit: In response to the below answer, they keep records of all those who have graduated (not sure if the details of student courses are available to the public). They say their records go back hundreds of years, but do not know how they are broken, so I gave links to the original poster can contact them by indicating the name and details ( such as birth and year of death if known, when a university, etc. .. and they can check their records to see if they find a match.
Does that mean that a student has been accepted for a program of study, and began taking classes for the program, or something like that. I do not know if they keep records dating back as far, or if these colleges were still in existence. My uncle husband is a lecturer at the University of Oxford.
Most of the University Archives this information, contact the two and ask them if they have data as far back then wonder how they could help. You can do so by e-mail, I discovered some of my ancestors by contacting the university they attend.
