The daily trainers that I wear fit so great that I am not afraid to run a mile 20, the first time I wear them. Footwear which must be broken are probably not the right kind of shoes to your feet. Find out what type of foot you have and only buy shoes that fall into this category.
Lightweight trainers are great shoes for training faster. For cycles of tempo and hill workouts light weight trainers are the ticket. lightweight cushioned trainers and support adequate to protect your feet and are still light enough to run faster. Be careful when buying light weight trainers. Make sure you buy the right type for your foot type.
Another great thing about light weight trainers is that they are light enough and stable enough for longer races. Personally, I wear trainers for half and full marathons. My own experience was that my feet never hurt after half marathons, finishing a marathon all this evil. I'd still recommend wearing light weight trainers of these race distances.
Racing flats are very light, usually less than 9 0z. Be careful with racing flats, finding the correct positioning is very important. Do not always get the lightest pair you can find. I prefer racing flats with some support and cushioning. A few ounces of cushion and support are always better than to be injured just to save 10 or 15 seconds in a 5k.
Personally, I would not recommend wearing racing flats in races longer than 10k. Spent my racing flats in a few half-marathons and my feet were swollen for several days. Since I am inclined light trainers exclusively my feet never hurt after.
The most popular time to wear racing flats during training is the path. The feeling of wearing light shoes during workouts faster race pace is what makes it so popular apartments. Personally, I like to wear racing flats during all my training track. There are others who wear racing flats only for a race. Choose what works best for you.
